Dhoni made his international debut for India in December 2004 in an ODI match against Bangladesh. He quickly rose to prominence with his explosive batting style and exceptional wicket-keeping skills. He became known for his calm and composed demeanor on the field, earning him the nickname "Captain Cool."
Under Dhoni's captaincy, the Indian cricket team achieved numerous significant milestones. One of his biggest achievements came in 2007 when he led India to victory in the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 held in South Africa. He also guided the team to victory in the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups.
Dhoni's most notable achievement as a captain came in 2011 when he led India to win the ICC Cricket World Cup after a gap of 28 years. His unbeaten innings of 91 runs in the final against Sri Lanka is regarded as one of the greatest innings in World Cup history.
In addition to his success in limited-overs cricket, Dhoni also led India to the number one ranking in Test cricket for the first time in 2009. He retired from Test cricket in December 2014 but continued to play in ODIs and T20Is.
In August 2020, Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to his illustrious career. He remains one of the most popular and influential cricketers in India and has a massive fan following. After his retirement, he has been involved in various business ventures and also serves as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
